NGC High-powered Offshore Controllable Pitch Propeller Propulsion System Project Wins China Machinery Industry Science and Technology Award

A high-power offshore controllable pitch propeller propulsion system project applied by the subsidiary of NGC Marine Group——Nanjing High Accurate Marine Equipment Co., Ltd. (Nanjing High Accurate Marine) recently won the third-class prize of China Machinery Industry Science and Technology Award. The China Machinery Industry Science and Technology Award is a comprehensive award of the national machinery industry. Since its establishment in 2001, thanks to the support of multiple parties, this award has formed influence and authority within the industry. Nanjing High Accurate Marine won the honor and further proved its leading position and strength the ship industry.

The high-power controllable pitch propeller propulsion systems developed by Nanjing High Accurate Marine are mainly used in offshore vessels, and is a high-end core matching part in offshore fields. This system includes propeller hub and shaft components, oil distributor, hydraulic system,, electric control system, and gearbox. The system utilizes finite element fatigue strength analysis on key parts such as the propeller hub and the gear under high power conditions, and utilizes the concept of optimization in the lightweight design of the large gearbox and the panel method in the calculation of propeller hydrodynamic performance. And also, the system adopts analysis of long shafting alignment, stabilization design of the long shafting hydraulic station and design of large torque clutch, and gives consideration to multiple factors influencing the gear engage design. As a series of controllable propeller products and gearboxes self-researched and developed by Nanjing High Accurate Marine, the maximum diameter of the propeller hub reaches upwards of 1560mm. The maximum designed diameter of the blades can reach 6700mm, with the maximum center distance of the gearbox being 1550mm, the maximum transmission torque reaching 160kW/rpm, and the maximum thrust attaining 180T. The company's large-power controllable pitch propeller propulsion system is widely applied in various tugboats, dredgers, AHTS, exploration vessels, semi-submersible platforms, drilling ships, wind turbine installation vessels, offshore support vessels and work boats.

The high-power offshore controllable pitch propeller propulsion system researched and developed by Nanjing High Accurate Marine features strong bearing capability, short pitch adjusting time, and high levels of automation that coordinate perfectly with the dynamic positioning system. This successful research and development of the propulsion system is a major domestic technical breakthrough in the field, which not only improves self-design and production capability of large domestic propeller hubs and gearboxes, but also improves the technical contents of key domestic offshore equipment, profoundly influencing the marine engineering industry as a whole. This influence is producing immeasurable economic and social benefits, and lays a solid foundation for promoting the transformation and upgrading, as well as the integrated development, of offshore equipment.
